The HUBzone Empowerment Contracting program provides federal contracting opportunities for qualified small businesses located in distressed areas. Fostering the growth of these federal contractors as viable businesses, for the long term, helps to empower communities, create jobs, and attract private investment. In these times of economic uncertainty, high unemployment, and economic stimulus legislation, I believe that the HUBZone program originally enacted by Congress in 1997 has the potential to greatley benefit those companies who are certified as HUBZone companies by the Small Business Administration and thus, help reduce unemployment and poverty in America.
The basic premise of my relationships with federal government contractors is to provide information and education to empower those contractors to obtain more from their current contracts and increase obtaining futurew contracts. Before the rise of the internet I used to send periodic newsletters and bullettins to clients and federal contractors. Beginning in 1999 I began using the internet for a website on which I provided articles and some discussions in addition to the written newsletters I mailed. In late 2008 I completely revised my main website, http://www.powerlawoffice.com/. and began two blogs, Practical Government Contracts and HUBZone help. This website is an addition to that effort.
As an attorney I have helped federal governmednt contractors prepare and apply for certified HUBZone status, remain in compliance with the program, and request that agencies set-aside federal government contracts for ceetified HUBZone concerns. However, by providing information and education on the HUBZone program ,as well as on federal government contracts in general, Power Law Office hopes to empower small federal government contractors to recognize and enforce their rights under federal government contracts on a day-to-day basis, prepare better and more competitive bids and proposals, and know when to seek support from outside professionals.
